DEMANDS OF THE WORKERS MANY STRIKES THREATENED A. and N.Z.. COPENHAGEN. Aug. 17. A new series of labour troubles has arisen in Germany. An electricians' strike in Upper Silesia led to a gradual deadlock, and a general strike is threatened. The workers' demands are political rather than industrial. Grave riots have occurred at Beuthen and Kattowitz. The railwaymen are also dissatisfied with the recent settlement, and insist on a fresh increase in wages. COAL FOR THE ALLIES. AMOUNT REDUCED.
