THE WEATHER.

HEAVY FOG AT AUCKLAND.

FORECAST BY MB. C. L. WRAGGE

A heavy fog enveloped the city and harbour with exceptional suddenness shortly before eight o'clock last evening. It remained dense until about midnight, after which it cleared.

Tho Harbour Board's bells and syreni were kept sounding to guide vessels niov ing about tho harbour, and proved useful in helping tho ferry boats to keep to their time-tables. The fog cleared somewhat at 10 p.m., when the Manaia left for Whangaroi, but it thickened again shortly afterwards, and for some time she could bo heard blowing her whistle as she proceeded down tho harbour. Tho souad died away as the distance became greater, and it was thought that she would possibly reel her way out of port. Tho following weather forecast was issued by Mr. Clement L. Wragge at 7 p.m. yesterday: higher pressure* from the north have, since last night, overlapped more or less all the Dominion. Fair to fine weather, with increasing cold at night, is likely to prevail, with variable winds, but such conditions will probably not last long. There are indications that another Antarctic disturbance is on the way from Tasmania. Sea moderate.
