Moving the second reading of the Communications Bill, Sir Eric Gcddes said the present system was semi-paralysed and wasteful. Britain would never take her proper place among the nations after the war unless she regenerated and unified her transport methods. Such reforms were vital to all other schemes of reconstruction. Sir Eric announced that the Government was withdrawing the clause empowering the Minister to nationalise the railways, canals, and docks by Order-in-Council.
