ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES.
LAST YEAR'S GAIN 246.
Excluding troops of the Expeditionary Forces, the total number of immigrants entering New Zealand in December, 1918, was 420—males 237, females 183; assisted by Government, 58.
The emigrants in the same month totalled 4110—males 216, females 204, Immigration and emigration thus exactly balanced.
In December, 1917, the immigrants totalled 1443— males 713, females 730, assisted 0. While the emigrants numbered 848 males 407, females 441, excess of immigration over emigration 595. For "the year 1918 the number of immigrants arriving in New Zealand totalled 11,906—males 6356, females 5550, assisted immigrants 419. The number of emigrants, on the other hand, totalled 11,660— 6097, females 5563, making an excess of immigration over emigration of 246.
For 1917 the immigrants numbered 15,649—ma1es 9159, females 6490, assisted 231. While the emigrants totalled 13,869 —males 7597, females 6272, excess of immigrants 1780.
