TAKAPUNA TRAMWAYS.
IMPROVED SERVICE DESIRED
BOROUGH COUNCIL DEPUTATION.
Matters connected with the Takapuna tramway service formed the subject of a deputation from the Takapuna Borough Council to the chairman of directors of the Tramway Company, the Hon. h, Mitcheison, yesterday. The Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. W. Blomfield, "on behalf of the deputation, requested that the 5.45 p.m. service from Auckland, which had been suspended last year owing to toe war, should be replaced. He also asked that the concession of half fares on the trams be granted to all pupils attending schools and colleges in the city. The Hon. E. Mitcheison said that, owin» to the enormous increase in the cost of materials necessary for the maintenance of the trams, the company had experienced great difficulty in carrying on an efficient service. He suggested that the Borough Council should appoint a committee of three to confer with an equal number of the company's directors, with a view to deciding if the requests of the deputation could be reasonably met.
