FRENCH PRESSING ATTACKS NORTH OF THE AISNE.

PROGRESS MADE ALONG A FRONT OF SEVEN MILES. Australian and N.Z. and Reuter. LONDON, Oct. 30. A French communique states: Between the Oise and the Serre lively artillery contests are in progress, notably in the region of Crecy sur Serre. The Fifth Army attacked west of Chateau Porcien on the Aisne, on a front of seven miles. Between St. Quentin le Petit and Herpy the enemy was ordered to hold his line at all costs, and resisted with great desperation. On the left we debouched from St. Quentin le*Petit and carried the lines to"the approaches of Hill 73, west of Banogne. We made progress in the centre, overcoming all resistance, and drove the enemy over the Reconvrance Road. On the right we gained Hill 156 and advanced eastward. The prisoners counted exceed 750. An American official communique says: North of Verdun we occupied Aincreville, and established lines north of the village. There has been heavy artillery firing on the west bank of the Meuse, especially north of St. Justis. Aerial activity is increasing.
