SERVICE OBJECTED TO.
APPEALS IN AUOKLAND. EXTENSIONS OF LEAVE. Further appeals and applications for extension of leave were considered by the First Auckland Military Service Board yesterday. Wilfred G. Davis, farmer, Mangere (Mr. Schnauer), who had previously been granted leave until January 10, applied for a rehearing. He said he was wholly supporting a wife and child, and partially supporting aged parents. Ha was the only son, and neither his father nor his wife could manage his small farm, and it would not pay to employ a manager. His wife was in poor health, and his child had to undergo three operations. The chairman said that a report which had been obtained suggested that appellant could milk more cows on his property. The case, was adjourned sine die on the understanding that the case will be reviewed again when B class of the Second Division is called up. Lawrence Bater, master plasterer, Ponsonby (Mr. Ostler), who had previously been granted leave to complete contracts in hand, said that, owing to bad weather | and the difficulty of obtaining materials, he still had two important contracts unfinished. Ho asked for further leave to April. He had been attending non-com-missioned officers' classes threo times a week. Leave was granted until May 1. James L. Morgans, shearer and slaughterman, Kingsland, applied for a rehearing. He had previously been given leave. He said two brothers were at the front. F. Tolerton, representing W. and R. Fletcher, Ltd., the omployers of Morgans, said appellant was likely to bo employed until July or AHgust. The case was adjourned sine die, on the understanding that appellant undertakes essential work when the killing season clows. The appeal of J. C. Tolo, solicitor, previously classed C2, but classed as A on re-examination, was adjourned for a month, in order to give appellant an opportunity of obtaining certain information from England. Cyril H. Dalton, Bemuera, and Thomas Cutler, Otahuhu, proved that they belonged to D class of the Second Division, and their appeals were allowed.
