STATEMENT OP WAR FUNDS.

The annual balance-sheet of the New Zealand division of the Salvation Army for the year ended September 30, 1917, shows tho assets to be £261,736 6s Bxl, and tho liabilities £149,003 18s sd, thus leading a credit balance of £112,732 8s 3d. On September 30, 1916, the balance was £93.284 2s Id, tho increase being made up by contributions to tho building fund amounting to £18,005 lis lOd, and the sum of £1442 14s 4d, which the General Fund was in credit for the period. Tho principal items of expenditure in the latter fund were the sum of £2639 19s 3d, for territorial headquarters maintenance, and £1215 13s 8d for garrison training. The annual self-denial effort realised £30,857, the total being subscribed as follows:—Auckland, £6125 173 4d; Central North, £12,848 Is 6d; Christchnrch, £4700; Dunedin, £3913 9s 9d; and Wellington, £3269 lis sd. The total amount was expended in grants to various funds, and printing, postage, and sundry expenses. The statements of account in connection with tho Salvation Army's war work in the Dominion are interesting. Donations and contributions in response to tho military camps appeal amounted to £5830, of which £5038 16s 3d was expended on buildings and additions and maintenance. The year was started with a debit of £415 9s 6d, and closed with a balance of £376 128 at bank. The effort 011 behalf of sick and wounded New Zealand soldiers resulted in subscriptions totalling £5842 5s lid, which, with £297 6s lOd, the balance in hand oil October 1, 1916, made a total of £6139 12s 9d. The principal amounts expended were £1000 for the erection of a hutment at Salisbury Plain, England, £400 for one at Codfnrd camp, and £922 16s Bd, £782 19s 10d, and £665 17s 8d granted in assisting and relieving sick and wounded in London, France and New Zealand, respectively. Tho fund had a credit balance of £1495 6s at the end of the period. The sum of £5395 Is Id was raised and transmitted to General W. Bramwell Booth for distribution among destitute Belgians and Servians.
