TAKAPUNA JOCKEY. CLUB.

CONCLUSION OF SUMMER MEETING.

FIONNUALA WINS THE HANDICAP.

Showery weather conditions were experienced for the concluding day's racing in connection with the Takapuna Jockey Club's Summer Meeting, which attracted what must have constituted a record attendance. The racing was again interesting throughout, and the general arrangements well up to the usual standard. Tho Dovonport Forry Company had the wholo of their fleet in commission, and the arrangements made for tho transportation of visitors to and from Devonport were, as usual, most successfully carried out by the respective officers. The principal event, the Takapuna Jockey Club Handicap, was won in decisive fashion by Fionnuala, the aged daughter of Spalpten—Success, who brought off a mild surprise when she won tho Stewards' Handicap on Saturday last. Fionnuala came on tba scono before tho homo turn was reached, ana won handsomely.

Mr. A. W. Gordon, stipendiary steward, had a busy day, two inquiries engaging his attention, which caused the judicial committee to sit at intervals practically throughout the wholo afternoon. One was into the runing of Poi at the meeting, and the other was an inquiry into the cause of tho accident in tho Rangitoto Hack Handicap. Both were adjourned until this afternoon at two o'clock, As a result of the fall experienced by Lough Ennell, Patetonga and Meltonio during tho Rangitoto Hack Handicap, tho former suffered a broken leg and had to bo destroyed. J. Conquest, his rider, had his collarbono broken, and suffered from severe concussion. The other riders experienced severe shakings. When Sylvan Knight fell during the Takapuna Maiden Hurdles, Turner, who rode thei Sylvite gelding, also suffered a broken collarbone.

The totalisator staff handled £47,698 during the afternoon, compared with £41.290 for tho corresponding day last year. For the meeting £83,977 was recorded, an increase of £13.702 10s over the Cup fixture of 1917, when £75,214 10s was registered, Results •
