KING AT NEWCASTLE.
WAR HONOURS CONFERRED SOLDIERS AND WIDOWS. A and N.Z. Cable. LONDON, June 18. There were affecting scenes at the investiture of honours by His Majesty the King at Newcastle at mid-day to-day. After nervier at the Cathedral 50,000 people assembled on the football ground, where several widows, with infant sons clinging to their skirts, received decorations. One young widow fainted on receiving the military medal, while others wept. A total of 120 soldiers or relatives were decorated by the King. The Queen was taken up the Tyne in a motor launch, escorted by aeroplanes and submarines. She conversed with workers in the dock in which the Prinz Adalbert is lying. ' The King sent the following message to the Lord Mayor of Newcastle: "The loyalty and fortitude of our industrial army fills me with courage and confidence. I am convinced that under God's guidance it will help us to victory."
