•Australian and N.Z. Cable. (Received 9 p.m.) BERNE. August 23. The Berlin newspaper Allegmeine Zeitung denies that General von Mackensen is directing the German armies on the Somme front. The paper states that he is commanding the forces operating against the allies in the Balkans.
