FRENCH COMMENT ON THE FALL OF FORT VAUX.
STRONG POSITIONS BARRING ENEMY'S PROGRESSTimes and Sydney San Services. (Received June 11. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, JUNE 10. The French press comments soberly on th© fall of Vaux Fort, but shows no dismay. It points out that further strong positions lie between the enemy and Verdun. General Verraux writes: "In order to make progress the enemy must pierce a point where attacks are most difficult owing to left flank fire from the Chenois and La Laufet fortifications." M. Gustave Herve* expresses the opinion that the capture of Fort Vaux and the recapture of Douaumont prove that the enemy *«,re still able to nibble away. General Berthaut, writing in the newspaper Petit Parisien, says: "Since the beginning of the war we have learned a lesson. The enemy's overweening confidence should warn us not to fall into the same error."
