CHILDREN AS SWIMMERS.
PARNjJLL PUPILS' PROGRESS.
Snrr-o.vE children from Standards IV., V., and VI. of the Paraell District School hava qualified at the Point Resolution Baths for certificates granted by tho NewZealand Amateur Swimming Association. Ten children qualified for learners' certificates, 38 for proficiency, and the following 13 for certificates"oi merit;— Cyril Jensen, noy Aimer, Joshua Duusmuir, Rex Fairbnrn, G. Fairburn, Robert So-m----merville, Alfred Rogers, C. O'Brien, Edward Peters, and three girls, Edna FarrelJ, Phyllis Curtis, and Emily Johnson. The* last-named girl the longest distance, viz.. one mile 200 yds. In the boys' races, Roy Aimer won tho senior championship and Rex Fairburn the junior. In the girls' races Emily Johnson was successful in the senior and Phyllis Curtis in the junior. Only Standards IV.. V., and VI. are taken to *.he baths for swimming practice. Last year 40 certificates were gained, and this year practically every child in the upper standards is able to swim.
