MENTAL DEFECTIVES.
RESULTS OF EXAMINATION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dcxedin, Monday. iNTERvnrvED on the subject of mental defectives to-night, Hon. J. A. Hanan, Minister for Education, said Mr. Benstead, principal of the Otekaike Institution, had furnished him with a report, based on examination, as to the suitability of applicants for admission to the schooL The report showed that in the North Island 75 cases had been examined, and in the South Island a number. There were about 300 more cases to be examined. Of the 150 cases examined, 46 were suitable for treatment at Otekaike. Of the number yet to be examined, probably a third would bo suitable for treatment. The Minister is proceeding North to-morrow.
