THE AUCKLAND DOCK SITE.
Sir, Not all Aucklandere have yet viewed the vast improvement made by the Harbour Board at the site of the late Auckland Graving Dock. Many Aucklanders were very jealous concerning that useful little dock—and rightly so— and were to be excused for objecting strongly to its obliteration. It surely needed masterful and masterly qualities somewhere to propose its extinction. Few Aucklanders, when they see the fine open space now lying where the dock was situated but will declare that the right thing lias been done, bold and iconoclastic as the proposal seemed. Just one thing is wanted. The crowning touch to the board's and Mr. Hamer's work would be the dedication of this area to the public, and its being turned into a thing of beauty, with lawns and flower beds and restful seats, where 6ome at least of the host of workers about there might have the chance of enjoying their mid-day respite in bright and breezy surroundings. It is a big —but is its realisation quite impossible? H. Stmons.
