The case of Professor von Zedlitz, of Victoria College, was again before the House of Representatives this afternoon, when Mr. R. McCallum (Wairau) presented a" petition from the Victoria College Council praying that the House* decline to pass legislation which would interfere with the free exercise of the ordinary functions of the council. 4

| The council indicated that :it feared that the parsing of the Alien Enemy Teachers Bill, introduced by the Prime Minister, would take away from it the control it now has over the position of Professor von Zedlitz. The council stated at lengths its opinion of the professor, that he was not disloyal to Britain, that he was to all intents and purposes an Englishman, and that he was a trusted and valuable servant of the council. Messrs. Pearce, Anderson, and Wilford objected to the petition going to the Education Committee, - and - thought it -r. should go through the - ordinary - channels 3? to the Classification Committee, which ? would send it to the committee competent to deal with it.
