HERALD WAR FUND.

WOUNDED AND DEPENDANTS

THE PROVINCE NEEDS £250,000.

The determination of the Auckland Patriotic and A\ar Relief Association to raise the Fund at its disposal to £250.000 can be realised by the hearty co-operation of the public. The whole of this sum will be required if justice is to be done to our wounded soldiers and their dependants. for there are man v sound claims which are beyond the necessarily regulated functions of the Government and which can only He adequately met by beneficent organisation. The Hkrald Hospital Ship and Wounded Soldiers' Relief Fund has already received £14.057 19s 5d for the common purpose, and the money is being paid, with the Auckland Mayor s Fund " into the association s account. The Herald confidently appeals to its readers to further assist, to the utmost of their financial ability, this most patriotic movement, for greatlv increased funds are needed owing to the extraordinary losses endured by our heroic soldiers in the voluntary discharge of their dutv to country and Empire. At a great price our men have already won undying fame for New Zealand and at an even greater price they will enable us to do our national part in savins; democracy and civilisation from destruction. The least return we can make to them is to so provide that the wounded and disabled will have every comfort and that no dependant of the fallen or disabled will know want.

Those "who have Airesd v given so generously through the Herald Fund are asked to consider the unprecedented situation, displayed by every casualtv list, and to repeat their giving ; any others should do their bounden dutv to the men who have done so much for us all. No donation 0411 he too large, and the smallest donation is as worthy as the largest if it represents the means of a whole-hearted giver. All donations, large and small, sent by mail to the Herald Office, Auckland" or paid into the Herald Office, Queen Street, will be acknowledged in these columns as contributions to the Herald Hospital Ship and Wounded Soldiers' Kclief Fund and raid over to the Auckland(Patriotic and War Relief Association.
