ELLERSLIE FATALITY.
MAN KILLED BY TRAIN.

Ft RTiiK.n evidence was given yesterday at the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of William Monaghan, aged 74, whose body was found in a mutilated condition on the railway line near Ellerslic last 'Saturday morning.
Tlx' deceased, it was stated, boarded the EiUrslie train at Newmarket at 5.30 on Friday evening;. When tho train stopped at Ellerslie, just after 6 p.m., the deceased was seen to be trying to open the platform gate of one of the carriages. He was not seen to actually alight on the platform.
Edward Ellis, an enginedrivei', deposed to having found the body on Saturday morning. It was lying at the side of the line, and in such a position as not to be very noticeable to a driver of an engine. The body ■*-■* then cold and in a dreadfullv mutilated condition.
Mr. K. ('. Cutten, S.M.. found that the deceased died from injuries received by being run over by a train, having apparently fallen from the platform of the. carnage, although there was no evidence to show the cause of the fall.
