DOMAIN TENNIS COURTS.
'CITY COUNCIL'S APPROVAL. The question of laying out new tennis courts in the Auckland Domain was advanced a stage at last night's meeting of the City Council.
The Auckland Lawn Tennis Association advised the council that if it would hand over the control of the ground at the Stanley Street entrance to the Domain, sufficient for 12 to 14 courts, the association would lay the courts at its own expense and provide four courts for public play on the same terms as those now imposed by the council. The association agreed to lay down and fully equip 11 courts and erect a pavilion at a total cost of £1200, the council to grant a three years' lease on the Glasgow principle, with a proviso that should the council wish to resume possession it would reimburse the association the amount e\ pended. The association asked that it be granted the services of Mr. Pearson for the beautification of the ground. The Works Committee recommended that the proposals of the association be agreed to with certain amendments in regard to detail. The committee's recommendation was adopted.
