THE CITY COUNCIL.

GREY LYNN TRAMLINE. DUPLICATION DESIRED. OLD PROMISE MENTIONED. The Auckland City Council met last night. Present: The Mayor, Mr. C. J. Parr, Miss E. Melville, and Messrs. G. Knight, 11. D. Heather, G. Read, R. S. Briggs, T. L. Thompson, A. J. Entrican, G. Baildon, 11. N. Bagriall, P. J. Xerhenv, G. J. Garland, J. Trevethick, Hall Skelton, J. Cuirt, A. Donald. A. J. a mock, J. C. G'.eesoti, and E. Carr. '

The Electric and Water Committee re- | ported that Mr. Baildon had urged that j the Tramways Company should be asked | to duplicate the Grey Lynn line. The committee suggested that the manager of I the company should bo asked when he proposes to carry out his prui.ise made to the committee that he would undertake the Grey Lynn duplication as the first work, seeing that the company has since carried out extension work at Morningside. Several members expressed indignation, and recommended strong action. The Mayor read a letter from the manager of the company stating that the work was not urgently needed. The company was not doing more duplication work at present than was absolutely necessary. The matter would have early and favourable consideration. The promise, said the Mayor, was given to the Grey Lynn, and not to the Auckland, Council. It was decided to refer the matter back to the committee, Mr. Baildon, ex-Mayor of Grey Lynn, and Mr. J. J. Walklate, manager of the company, to be invited to attend. MISCELLANEOUS.

USE OF DOMAIN FOR DRILL. The application of the National Reserve to be allowed to drill on the Domain Cricket Ground and in the hall purchased for the cadets was referred to the Works Committee for consideration. A further request that a few arc lights should be erected round the cricket ground to enable the ground to be used to the greatest advantage, was referred to the same committee. A draft agreement between himself and the council for a road from Karangahape Road into Myers Park was submitted by Mr. David L. Nathan. It was referred to the Works Committee.
