UNDER UNION RULES.' - FETUSES. October —Labour Day Sports (Domain). December s.Hantly Athletic Club;, January I.— Aroha Fire Brigade SportsJanuary 1. —Waipa Caledonian Society. NOTES AND COMMENTS. The first issue of the Athletic Union's gazette has made .its appearance and 1000 copies have been mailed free of charge to competitors, clubs, officials, etc., throughout the province, from Xaitaia in the North, to Taumarunui in the South. The gazette contains a considerable number of items, of athletic interest. ; The Eudge-Whitworifi Shield will -be competed for at the Labour Day sports in the Domain on October 86- A specially designed gold medal will be presented to the rider who secures the coveted trophy. The shield is on view in the window of the E. sad F. Piano Company. Competitors will note from an 'announcement elsewhere that those who compete at j the Labour Day sports will be eligible to take part in some 114 club meetings throughout the province. Many of these clubs give substantial prizes, namely, Te Aroha, Hunt!}, Papakura, Thames, Helensrille, and D&rgaville. A meeting of the Northern Union executive will be held next week to deal with competitors who took part in a recent unauthorised sports meeting. At the general meeting of clubs held in July it was decided thai such offenders be disqualified for life, unless they can show extenuating reasons. Such disqualifications will be published in the union's gazette. Among the changes at recent annual meetings is the assumption by Mr. D. McKinnon, Frankton. of the secretaryship of the Waikaio Caledonian Society, rendered vacant by the retirement of a ■worthy predecessor, Mr. ; T. G. Glasgow. Mr. McKinnon has had & long and honourable career in the demesne of sport- He h&3 been an active member of the Waikato Caledonian Society since its inception, and is identified with general athletics. He has been a successful axeman, and is a life member of the Waikato Cricket Association. As secretary of two football clubs, member of • Hamilton Rugby Union. and representative player, he has achieved success. With this class of sport, he is" still identified, and is also an executive officer °[, th V • , ikato Coursing - Club. Such an able official, backed up by a strong working committee, will do much to secure & prosperous future for- the Waikato Caledonian Society.

MORRLNSVILLE SPORTS. >■ The programme for the Morrinsville sports, which was announced during the week, includes 100 yds Open Handirain 120 yds Sheffield, «oyds and SSoTds Ope a Handicaps ,220 yds Hurdles Handicap, and One-mile Bicycle Handicap. The entries close with Mr. F. P. Attw£d, on October 8 In the advertised programme it was stated in error that the second prize in the Maiden Racefts 20s. It should have read 10s.

The Auckland University .College Athletic Club has decided to hold the annual interfaculty sports meeting at the Domain on November 30.
