FORTHCOMING ELECTION.

THE OPPOSITION ORGANISER. [DT TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Ohristchurch, Tuesday. Unofficial information has been received to the effect that Mr. D. Denihy, of Christchurch, has been appointed organiser for the Liberal Party. Mr. Denihy, who is a son of Mr. D. F. Denihy, and a native of Westport, has since his school days taken a lively interest in politics. He commenced life as a gold miner, afterwards taking up sawmill work and employment in timber yards where, naturally, he had the principles of Labour ground into him. Consequently he has always been an ardent supporter of the Labour cause and anything that tended to the betterment of tEe workers.

Mr. Denihy later accepted a position as canvasser for the New Zealand Govern-

-merit Insurance Department and proved most successful in that line of business. The newly-appointed Opposition organiser has also a knowledge of political conditions in America and England. Recently on two occasions he attended the House of Commons and heard such famous speakers as Mr. Lloyd George, Mr. Balfour, Mr. John Redmond and others. Mr. Denihy is well-known in sporting circles, being the compiler and publisher of the New Zealand Trotting Guide.

' It is understood that the official Opposition candidate for the Ashburton seat at the general election will be Mr. W. S. Maslin, of Geraldine. Efforts axe being made in the Ashburton portion of the Belwyn electorate to induce Mr. J. H. Jessop, of Cashmere, ClrristJrurch, to contest the Belwyn seat at the general election.

It is expected that Mr. W. Downie Stewart, Mayor of Dunedin, will stand for Dunedin West in the interests of the Reform Party at the general election. The constituency is at present represented by the Hon. J. A. Millar, who, it is believed, does not intend to seek re-election.
