THE COST OF THE STRIKE. ALLOCATION OF £100,000. EPIDEMIC ABSORBS £25,000.' £3000 EXTRA FOR EAST COAST RAILWAY. (BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington-, Sunday. Tin; Supplementary Estimates were brought down in the House of Representatives this afternoon. 'Hie most important allocations are £25,000 for the cost of the recent epidemic, and £100,000 on account of the strike. A great many items deal with increases in salary, consequent upon the classification by tlio Civil Service Commissioners. The sum chargeable to i tho Consolidated Fund is £321,061, and to Public Works, £51,306. A number of bonuses and special allowances arc made to all branches of the Parliamentary staff on account of tho length of the session. Tho sugar trust prosecution case is recalled by the granting of £1000 for proceedings under tho Commercial Trust Act, 1910. An allowance of £140 is made to Dr. Te Rangihiroa, M.P., for services rendered during the epidemic. A sum of £500 is allotted for the International Medical Congress, to be held at Auckland, while £100 is granted to the widow of tho late Mr. A. Hamilton, director of the Dominion Museum. The allocation for expenses connected with tho waterside workers' strike is £100,000. Mrs. Laurenson, widow of the lata Mr. (1. Laurenson, M.P., receives a gratuity of £300, while £200 is granted towards the cost of erecting a memorial on the West Coast to commemorate tho discovery of gold. Tho supplementary allowance for the territorial force is £5200, the total Defence vote being £8700. Tho cost of counsel on tho Westport Harbour Royal Commission was £100. The, allocation for the expenses of the visit of Professor Prince to report on the. New Zealand fisheries is £350, and Mcssts. Robertson and Veftch, M.P.'s reoeivo £245 for services upon the Cost of Living Commission. A sum of £2900 is granted, to tho universities, Otago receiving £300 for specialisation, Auckland £1500, Victoria College £500. bursaries and subsidies £600. For services upon the Education Commission. Messrs. H. Poland and G. M. Thomson, M.P.'s, receive £102. For planting reserves in the Mackenzie country £210 is allotted. The inquiry into the Public Trust Office by Royal Commission cost £527. The new hostel at Mount Cook Hermitage is given £2000, while tho remuneration and travelling expenses of th> Forestry Commission amounted to £329. The expenso of the visit of Mr. Rovd Garlick to Australia was £42 Is 4d. For experiments in the cultivation of North Auckland gum lands, an additional £200 is provided.
