BREACHES OF AWARDS.

A number of cases involving breaches of industrial awards were dealt with at the Magistrate's Court yesterday by Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M.

Alexander Tomlinson (Mr. Grundy) pleaded guilty to charges that he had failed to keep a wages and overtime book, and also to employing a casual hand at 4s a day instead of 7s 6d, as required by terms of the Auckland Hotel Workers' Award. Mr. Grundy said the casual employee was engaged for two hours on Sunday mornings, and, although the award required him to be paid 7s 6d, he was undoubtedly getting well paid for his services at 4s for two hours. His Worship inflicted a fine of £5 and costs on the first charge, and £2 on the 6econd. R. H. Jackson and Co., carriers, of Devonport, were charged with failing to keep a wages and overtime book. There was no appearance of the defendants, wi.o were fined £5 and costs.

J. G. Hobson, on a similar charge, was fined 5s and costs.

J. Bousie was convicted and ordered to pay costs on account of employing an assistant after hours, contrary to the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

JUDGMENT SUMMONS CASES.

In each of the following judgment summons cases, orders for immediate payment were made, with the alternative of imprisonment, the orders being', subject to certain periods of suspension:—E. Clendon v. Thomas G. De Renzy (Auckland), £30 17s lOd; Northern Boot and Shoe Manufacturing Company, Limited, v. James W. Kavanagh (Hamilton), £8 53 lid; Auckland Workers' Co-operative Society, Limited, v. Frederick W. Ama (Auckland), £2 la sd.
