MINING NEWS.

BREMNER'S FREEHOLD.

WORK OF THE PAST SIX MONTHS.

The half-yearly general meeting of shareholders in Bremner's Freehold Gold Mining Company, Limited, was held yesterday afternoon. There was a fair attendance of members, and Mr. John McGregor presided. The reports of the directors and of the mine manager, together with the balance-sheet, were adopted. The retiring director, Mr. W. S. Whitley, was reelected, and Mr. C. A. Churton was reappointed as auditor to the company.

According to the directors' report, opera- ] tions at the mine have been steadily carried on, and the prospects in the rise now in progress on Tiernan's reef from the low level are very encouraging. Bullion to the value of £159 8s 5d has been won since the last balance-sheet, obtained from 11 tons general ore, 571b of picked stone, and 451b of selected ore. The mine manager in his report says that in the rise at present in progress two reefs are showing, both of which shew coarso gold in the stone, and according to present indications specimen stone should be met with at any time. If the rise from this level to No. 1 level could be carried out he is of opinion that rich gold would be met with between the two levels. ,

The half-yearly balance-sheet up to July 31 shows that of the nominal capital of £10,000, the sum of £1212 19s 10Jd has been called up. Forfeited shares account for £518 0s Id, calls unpaid £163 10s 4£d, and sundry creditors £59 18s sd, which leaves a balance of £928 6s lOd. Working expenses amounted to £108 15s Bd, and the amount received .on calls totalled £396 6s 6d. NEW WAITATA, In No. 1 block going south from the main rise at the New Waitaia mine, Kuaotunu, No. 7 stope was along 20ft last week, and was carrying fair ore, showing a little gold. No. 5 stope near the extreme south end was still showing gold in heavily mineralised ore, the reef being only sin wide. No. 7 stope going north was along 25ft from the main rise, the reef being from 12in to 15Ln wide, and showing strong gold. Some of it was almost good enough to select. The reef at the north end of the block was from 12in to 18in wide, and looked very well, fine gold showing freely. The good ore had already lengthened 30ft in the stopes beyond the spot where values ceased in the drive, and it had every appearance of continuing to gain. There was no change in the north drive, the men being engaged for most of the week cutting in on the eastern vein. No. 2 rise was up 14ft. big, heady country being penetrated. The reef formation was 12in wide, with patches of conglomerate again showing in it. HANDSWORTH UNITED. From the winze in the Handsworth United mine, Kuaotunu, a drive has been taken in north for a distance of 15ft, without any improvement in the ore. Twenty feet his also been driven south, the formation carrying values, But nothing in quality like the ore previously won from this quarter. There were about three stopes overhead, and if prospects continue these will be taken out to the upper level. MOANATAIARI. The following telegram was received from the Moanataiari mine, Thames, yesterday :—" Moanataiari crosscut quartz about 3in wide exposed. Showing good minerals. Only a small portion broken."
