KAIPARA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
[+- • [PROM OUR DAEGAVIIIiB CORRESPONDENT.] A MEETING of the council of the Kaipara Chamber of Commerce was *eld at Dargaville on Monday last, there being present: Messrs. F. JL Jones (president), F. J. Dargaville, J. Hogg, S. 0. Colmore-Willia-Qfl, O. E. Smith, and G. H. Bellamy. The president reported that the Marine Department had completed a survey of the Beacon Point vicinity, and that a light would be forthwith installed on the eastern Dank; that dredging would be shortly carried out at the Mititai channel; and that the rooks at Horehore would be rebuoyed. A communication was received from the Minister for Agriculture (Hon. W. F. Massey) that circumstances did not at present warrant the appointment of another stock inspector for North Auokland. The president explained that the council had asked —in connection with the purchase of a cite for the DargaviUe new post office—that a sufficient area of land should be acquired by the Government as an area on which offices could be erected for the conjoint purpose of accommodating. in the near future, a stock inspector, separate valuation officer, and the local defence authorities.- It was decided to defer 'further consideration of the subject until a reply had been received to the request for a second valuation officer to be appointed for the north. The Hobaon Acclimatisation Society wrote to the effect that It was prepared to help the North Auckland court project as far as its funds would allow. The president stated that the organisation work wae progressing satisfactorily, that £45 had been received, and a further sum of £98 had been promised. The question of improved facilities at the Helengville steamer terminus was discussed, and Mr. Oolmore-Williams notified that he would re-lntroduoa the subject at next meeting. A motion advanced by Mr. Dargaville, and adopted, wae to the effect that the chamber viewed with pleasure the fact that consideration was being given to the proposal for a canal at Auckland to link the east and west coast waters, as such would greatly benefit tl whole of the north in the matter of freightage and travelling fares. .On the motion of the president, it was resolved to aek the Ministor for Lands (Hon. W. P. Massey) to instruct the Forestry Commission to take evidence in Dargaville.. particularly in reference to the Waipoua State Forest.
