BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL.

■ Thh Birkenhead Borough Council met last night. Present: Messrs. Win. Wallace (Mayor). J. W. Court, 0. E. Campbell, A. Bartlett, Ja«. P. Mo. Phail, Re*. Shepperd, Thos. Church, F. Pinch, and J. Maglnness. The district electors' roll wag approved and signed, and it was stated that the supplementary roll would close on April 16, and the election for Mayor and nine councillors would be held on April 30. The Harbour Board' notified that the request i for sanitary conveniences at Birkdale Wharf could r not be acceded to. The Mayor regretted the board's decision, and suggested a further appli- ' cation at a future date. Several application* for water connections were ' granted ' The Treasury Department notified that the ' borough's first loan, of £1664 lis Ski, having been extinguished, the borough's liability in respect ' thereof had been written off. The Ambulance Society web granted permission to take up a street collection on Saturday, April 19. Messrs. Hellaby and' Oo.'s donation in connection with the improvement of Telephone Boad was accepted. ' The Maror pointed out that, under the suggested sanitary by-laws, it was proposed to declare ' a sanitary area and to strike a sanitary rate. ' The by-laws and correspondence in connection ' therewith were referred to the Sanitary Committee. Several resident! of Balmain Road, having 1 an area of on acre or over, wrote protesting against the enforcement of the sanitary services to their properties. The letters were received. Mr. T. M. Shepherd, secretary of the Birkdale Fruitgrowers' Association, wrote calling attention to the condition of Pine Avenue, and: also asking » that the balance of the loan allocation be ex- " pended as soon as possible. It was decided to * reply that the council recognised the importance ' of the work, which would be attended to as soon L as circumstances permit ted. ' The Mayor and Mr. Maginness were appointed ' a deputation to wait upon the Ferry Company t regarding suggestions for some punor improve- . ments. , i Mr. H. H.
