REVISION OF THE TARIFF.

INQUIRIES BY MINISTER. Proposals for the revision of the Custom)! tariff of New Zealand will be sutmntted to Parliament next session. During several months the Minister' for Customs .(the Hon- F. M. B. Fisher) has been engaged in obtaining information that will be of value in framing his proposals, the feature of his plan being a series of visits to all centres of the Dominion in which local industries are being developed. Inquiries in this connection will be made by Mr- Fisher in Auckland during the next week, and he will again visit Christchurch and Dunedin, and also some other centres before his preparations are completed. Representatives of the ironmasters of the city were the first to interview the Minister in Auckland in relation to the tariff. He discussed their proposals with, them in private, and other deputations in regard to the tariff will also be received privately. Mr. Fisher intends to visit as many manufactories as possible during "stayin Auckland. " I want to meet the , manufacturers in their own works," he ' told a Herald representative yesterday, "to see the articles they are producing, and their methods of producing, ascertain the quality of the machinery in use, the amount of capital invested, and the number of bands engaged, and also gain a knowledge of the competition which, they encounter."
