Wellington-, Monday. The heavy rain which fell on Friday night greatly interfered with the success of the inter-provincial tennis match between Canterbury and Wellington. The match had finally to be played on asphalt courts. Following are the results:— Men'sj Singles: Ollivier (C.) beat Swanfiton (W.), 6—4. 6—l; Fisher (W.) beat Gosh (C.), 2-6. 7—5, 6-3; Peacock (W.) beat Pearce (C.l, 6—l, 6—3; Brown (W.), beat Greenwood (0.). 6—3, 6-4; Sheppard (0.) beat White-Paisons (W.), 6-2, 3—6. 6-4; Smythe <W.) beat Seay (C), 7—5, 6-3. Men's Doubles: Peacock and Fisher beat Ollivier and Goss, 9—7, 6—3; Swanston and Brown beat Pearce and Greenwood, 6—4, 6—3; White-Parsons and Smythe beat Sheppard and Seay, 6—3, 6—4. Summary: Wellington 7 rubbers, 15 sets; Canterbury, 2 rubbers, 5 sets. Ladies' Singles: Miss Travers (W.) beat Miss Cotton (C), 6—2, 6—o; Miss NunneHy <W.) beat Mrs. Ballantyne (C), 6—l, 6—l; Miss Vanstaveren (W.) beat Mies Bloxam fC.),'6-5, 4-6, 6-2; Miss McDougall beat Mrs. Goldie. 4—6. 6—4. 6-2. Ladies' Doubles: Miss Travers and Mrs. Goldie beat Miss Cotton and Mrs. Ballantvne, 6—4, 6—l: Miss Nunnelly and Miss Vanstaveren beat Miss Bloxam and Miss McDougall, 6-5. 6—2.
