AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION.
CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES COMMENCE.
The Auckland Croquet Association's championship meeting opened yesterday on tha Remuers. lawn. In the singles competition, Miss AVoi;:man beat Mrs. Oldham, and Miss Hesketh beat Mrs. Corbett-Scott. Mrs. A'ause and Mrs. Mackay defeated Mrs. "Walker and Mrs. Tborne* in this doubles championship. To-dav Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Brown will meet Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. BrifPault at 10 a.m., and at the same time Mrs. Blackburn will play Mrs. Thorncs. Mrs. Mackay receives a bye from Mrs. Courtley. In the afternoon Miss Esam is drawn to play Mrß. OTtonnell at 1.30 p.m., but as the former may be unable to play, the committee wish Miss He3keth to be in attendance to take her place, if necessary. • At a meeting of the executive of the association yesterday it. was decided to wind un the tournament with progressive matches' —one for senior players and one for juniors. Entries will be received from the six best players in each club, only two, however, being allowed to play. A draw will take* place to decide who is to play when all entries are received. Players are requested to note that they mar enter at the Remnera lawn up till 4 p.m. on Thursday. The matches will not be confined solely to players taking part in the championship events.
