AKONYSioirs letters in the local press, that the- nurses at Timaru Hospital were overworked and frequently ill, caused; the Board to make inquiry at the meeting to-day. . ■ The chairman read a comparative statement showing the proportion'..of to tlie da% average of patients in this and other hospitals, Tiiharu Hospital being one _of the best; off:, in this respect. Reckoned in the same manner, the domestic staff is larger than any other named. The matron and nurses, were indignant at the letters, and said they had made no complaints, and had none to make. The Board has decided to ask the new Minister to look into the old claim for the subsidy withheld, and'also to pay for the erection of a padded cell, and for a permanent male attendant for violent mental cases, including delirium tremens.
