CHALLENGE CONTEST.

A challenge contest between the Auckland and West End Lawn Tennis Clubs lor the right to play in the first grade of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association inter-club competitions took place at the West End courts on Saturday. Victory went to til© Ponsonby Club by nine points to tour, in© majority Of the matches were close and intercsting. Supporters of both clubs evinced a. lot of interest in the contest. The following are the detailed results: _ Men's Singles: Snelling, «>. v. Keith. 9; Goldsmith, b. v. Quinncll. 9; Webster. 9. v. Upton. 8; Millies, 9. v. Oliphant, 6. Men's Doubles: Spelling and Goldsmith, 7, v. Keith and Quinncll. 9: Milnes and Webster. 9. v. Upton and Oliphant. 6; Johns and Andrew, 9, v. Smith and Fee. 6. ladies' -Singles: Mrs. Cooke. 5. v. Miss Gray. 7: Miss Woodroffe, 4. v. Miss Moore, 7. Ladies' Doubles: Misses Cooke and "Woodroffe. 5. v. Misses Gray and Moore, 7; Mrs. Martin, and Miss Calvert. 6. v. Mrs. Earle and Miss Paterson. 7. Combined Doubles: Andrew and Mrs. Martin. 0. v. Smith and Mrs. Earle. 7; Johns and Miss Calvert, 4. v. Fee and Miss Paterson. 7. \
UNIVERSITY TEAM FOR DUNEDIN. The following have been selected to represent Auckland University College at the inter-'Varsity lawn tennis championship tournament, to bo held at. Duncdin, during the Easter holidays:—N. R- Campbell. J. B. Reynolds. Bruce Scott, and N. It. Jacobsen. The lady players selected found that they could not make the trip. Mr. Benson 11Wvman will act as local delegate, and will also be in charge of the above team.
SECONDARY SCHOOLS' COMPETITION
The Auckland secondary schools' lawn tennis championship competitions were continued on Saturday. Results wero as follow Girl.*' Doubles.—Final: Misses Moses and Latimer (Grammar School) beat Misses MeFarlane and Graham (Miss Bews's College). 6—l. 6—-4- „, . , Girls* Singles.—Semi-finals: Miss Wright (Miss Bows's College) beat Miss Latimer (Grammar School), b— 6—2, Misses Wright and McFarlano will play off the final at the Eden and Epsom ground; to-morrow. The final of the Boys' Doubles, between Tonks and Duthie (Ring's College) and Ohlson and Blundell (Grammar School), will bo played this afternoon on the Remuera green.
