TH AUCKLAND CLUB.
SATISFACTION WITH NEW LINKS.
Members of the Auckland Golf Club played a scramble" handicap at the iriddlemore links, Otahnhu, on Saturday, but it was not the official opening of the season. Some 40 players were engaged. The play was remarkably good, especially when it is considered that it was the start of the season, and that the new course was being played on for the first time. Although the course is so much longer than formerly, the score cards did not show the increased number of strokes that might have been expected. The players found the new holes even beyond their expectations, and they were delighted with the natural golfing advantages of the new position of the course, and the greater variety of play afforded. The club has experienced some trouble in keeping the grass down, but it is hoped to remedy this in a few days by putting more sheep on: For the splendid order the greens were in much credit is due to the greenkeeper and his assistant. The winner of the handicap was H. Horton, whose net score was 78. John Prater was next with 79. The best cards were handed in by the following:H. Horton. gross score 90. handicap 12. net 78: John Prater. 99, 20, 79: H. Allen. 98. 16, 82; E. W. Cave. 98. 16, 82; D. MacCormick, 87. 4, 83: B. Dawson. 99, 15. 84; P. Lawrence, 95, 11. 84; W. R.
