NEW ROUTE TO ROTORUA.

DEVIATION THROUGH CAMBRIDGE. [Br TELEGRAPH.—SVECLtL CORRESrONT>ENT.] Wellington-, Tuesday. A PBOrosAL was made in .the House of Representatives this afternoon by Mr. J. A. Young (Waikato) that Cambridge should be brought into the route of the main line to Rotorua by a deviation from Ruakura Junction. Mr. Young asked the Minister for Public Works to obtain a report upon the desira- , bility of extending the branch railway line from Ruakura, and now terminating at Cambridge, to join the Rotorua line at or near Tirau or Putaruru. He explained that the proposed extension would traverse country some of which is the most fertile and the best worked in the Auckland province. The line would reduce the railway distance between Auckland and Rotorua by about 15 miles, and would fellow the course of the Waikato River in one of its most picturesque parts, and would afford some splendid views of the Horahora Rapids.
