ALLEGED ASSAULT.
HUSBAND AND WIFE CHARGED. [BT TEUKRAPH.-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi. Tuesday. A cask in which George .W. Dennis and Beatrice Dennis, a young married couple, were charged on ten informations (covering various dates) with having unlawlully assaulted GeoTgeina Dennis, mother of the male defendant, was before Mr. I. J. Burgess, S.M., at the Magistrates Court to-day. Sergeant Wohlmann prosecuted for th© police and the defendants, j wJk> pleaded not guilty to all the charges, ! wijre represented by Messrs. Clendon and Jackson. In outlining the case for the prosecution, the sergeant alleged persistent cruelty to the complainant by the daugh-ter-in-law, with whom the informant (a widow) had been living since the marriage of the defendants., The son was charged because he was the head of the house, and must have, known what was going on, but it was alleged took no active steps to prevent the ill-treatment of his mother. It was further alleged that he wilfully connived with the female defendant, and was an accomplice in her acts. The case is proceeding.
