WOMAN'S SUDDEN DEATH.

DOCTOR ARRIVED TOO LATE.

A single woman named Gwendoline Tompkins, aged 35 years, dyed suddenly at tho residence of George Crichton, in Upper Union-street, yesterday morning. About 12 days ago Crichton sent for Dr. Parkes, . who prescribed for the woman, and thereafter visited her regularly. She was apparently getting better when the doctor last saw her alive on Saturday afternoon, and ho granted her permission to get out of bed on the following day. Shortly after seven o'clock yesterday mornjing the woman complained to Crichton of a dreadful pain. Sho was moaning at the time, and Crichton went for Dr. Parkes. When Crichton returned the woman was dead, and tho doctor, arriving a short timo after, could on pronounce lifo extinct. Dr. Parkes would not certify as to the cause of death, as he could not understand why eho should have died so suddenly under the circumstances. An inquest will bo opened by tho-Coro-ner at 11 o'clock this mornjing, at, the Criterion Hotel.
