ALLEGED WHARF PILFERING.

A DRIVER ARRESTED.

Tod McCully, a driver in the employ of Messrs. J. J. Craig, was arrested on Saturday on a charge of pilfering at the Hobson-street Wharf. McCully took some cases of tinned meat to the wharf in a waggon and placed them alongside some cases of tinned milk, which were to bo placed on board the Island steamer Tofua. He .went away with his vehicle, but returned shortly afterwards. One of the wharf officials noticed that a case containing tinned meat and another containing tinned milk had been broken open, and on investigation he found that four tins of milk and threo of meat were missing. Tho official searched McCully's hooded waggon, and there found a tin of milk and another of meat in a bag that was hanging inside the waggon. The driver stoutly denied that ho put the articles in the bag, and alleged that they must have been placed there by some other person. Tho wharf official informed the police of the facts, and Sergeant Ramsay placed McCully under arrest. McCully will bo brought before the magistrate at the Police Court this morning. After the arrest somo cases of tinned meat and milk were found in a locker in accused's house.
