HANGED BY A STRAP.
SUICIDE AT WHANGAREI.
[BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wjianoarki, Saturday. Joseph Rule, a labourer, aged 62 years, committed suicide by hanging himself to a peg on tho wall of his room at Onerahi yesterday afternoon. The deceased, who was a native of Coromandel, left a widow and six children, ranging from 13 years to one year. At an inquest held to-day by tho district Coroner (Mr. J. M. Killen), Mrs. Rule stated that about three p.m. she sent her little daughter into her father's room. The child caino running back in a fright, and the mother immediately went to investigate. She found her husband hanging dead from a strap attached to a hat nek. Her husband's behaviour had never suggested that he contemplated such a step, though ho was unusually moody and depressed on the day of tho tragedy. He had been on a prolonged drinking bout. The Coroner returned a verdict of suicide.
