A NEW HATCHERY SITE.

HANDIER THAN TAPAPA.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Huntly, Saturday. Fort somo timo past the out-of-the-way situation of tho Auckland Acclimatisation Society's hatchery at Tapapa, near Okoroire, has proved very disadvantageous for the distribution of game and fish, while tho cost of transit has also been found burdensome.

The Huntly Rod and Gun Club has suggested Smith's Creek, about a mile and a-half south of Huntly, as a suitable and convenient spot for a hatchery. There is an abundance of excellent water, of which tho temperature, even in the height of summer, does not exceed 58deg. F., and which is fed by springs in the upper reaches, just above a fine fall, about 50ft in height. At the bottom of tho fall is a series of natural "ports," worn out of the solid rock, while the .'and to the south is a Government reserve, portion of which could easily be procured for the purpose. Mr. W. H. Hazard and several of his executive will visit the locality early, and will also attend a meeting at Ohinewai, where a rod and gun club will bo formed.
