BODY FOUND IN THE HARBOUR

A LABOURER'S DEATH. While fishing from the new No. 4 jetty in Quay-street yesterday afternoon George Weller noticed the body of a man floating close to the wharf. Ho drew the body on to the wharf steps, and then went and informed Sergeant Ramsay of his discovery. The sergenat had the body taken to the morgue at Hobson-street. In one of the pockets «of the coat was found an unopened bottle of lysol, wrapped in paper, a fishing line, and some papers bearing the name of James Gibbons. Last evening tho body was identified as that of James Gibbons, a labourer, who had boarded at Mrs. Baxter's house, 23, Vincent-street. He left the house about three weeks ago, and had not been seen since by the landlady. He had previously gone away to Wellington without informing her, and she thought he must have done so again. She had, in fact, contemplated writing to deceased's sister in Wellington to know if he had gone there, but had not done so. The Coroner will hold an inquest at tho Criterion Hotel shortly after 11 o'clock this morning.
