The yawl Viking, under charter to His Excellency the- Governor, made her initial trip on Sunday, with a large party on board, returning to the moorings about six p.m Mr. S. White, the starter in the North Shore Yacht Club races, had a difficult task on Saturday, as whon the time of starting some of the classes arrived there was only one representative of the class present. With commendable impartiality, Mr. White started each race as the time elapsed, not waiting a minute for the laggards. This is as it should be. It is expected that the Emerald and Waitero will start in tlio Victoria Cruising Club's races to-day. _ At latest reports both ; boats were away cruising. I In Class 14 race in the recent Auckland I regatta, through the Alico being disqualified *for being over-length, tho prizes have been awarded: Mayo 1, Neola 2, Mavourneen 3. j The protest in the Auckland Regatta trading cutters' race has been withdrawn, j so tho Mana is first and Janet second. The ladies' race, to havo boon held to-day by the Victoria Cruising Club, has been postponed to a date to bo announced. The sneak thief is still about. The latest i Victim to petty theft is Mr. A. H. Bentley. the rear-commodore of tho Now Zealand Power Boat Association and owner of the launch Sister Dora. Mr. Bentley's mooringbuoy, a two-gallon keg, was deliberately cut off the buoy-rope while the launch was at , her moorings near tho Iris wharf. ! The win of the Colma on Saturday in the ; North Shore Yacht Club's raco to Kawau 'was a very popular one. ': After finishing in the North Shoro Yacht .Club's cruising raco to Home Bay on Satur- , day afternoon, tho 20-foot mullet-boat Deeima proceeded to Matiatia, where the night was passed in company with the Mowai, Arcadia, Colox, and Wairoa. On Sunday the . Deeima went out to the Noisics. The light wind and flood tide on Saturday kept a good many of the boats from starting :to time in tho North Shore Yacht Club | races. | AMONG THE MOTOR BOATS. The steam launch Rehutai visited Thames for the week-end, returning to tlio moorings about six p.in on Sunday. Mr. T. Pressor's launch Sappho left on a ten days' cruise among tho islands of tho Gulf on Friday evening.^ The launch Karoro visited the Thames for the week-end, returning to the moorings about 5.30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The solo is reported of the launch Vanora, lately owned by Mr. Lindsay Cooke, of Potisonby, to Mr. Maurice O'Connor. The Vanora was built by Messrs. Logan Bros., and was in Nelson, where she was purchased by Mr. M. A. Jenny, who had her completely ovcrhaulel and renovated. Mr- Jenny called Iter the Vanora, and afterwards sold her to Mr. Cooke. She was brought from Nelson to Auckland by Captain J. W. Nicholson. The 35ft cruising launch Kiwi will leave to-day for a fortnight's cruise. Among tho nlacos to be visited will be Coromandel and Russell. Tho launch Seabird spent the weck-eud at the Sandspit.
