CRICKET.
"THE SIX" NOT ACCEPTORS.
THREE OF THEM REPLACED.
By Telegraph Preii Auociation—Copyiljht. ■ Received February 22, 9 p.m.) Sydney, February 22. During the early part of the day, the Premier (Mr. McGowen) and Mr. P. F. Warner (captain of the English team) i fruitlessly tried to secure a settlement of j the cricket trouble between the Board ' of Control and the dissentient six (Hill, j Trumpet. Armstrong, Ransford, Cotter, and Carter) as to the managership of the English tour. Having only received his invitation on Saturday, Hill has 10 days from then to consider the position. The other five players accepted the invitations to the tour, but reserved the right to withdraw if anything arose prior to the departure of the team rendering such a withdrawal necessary. The, Board of Control would not accept this, and insisted on a definite and unqualified acceptance. The six players having thus failed to accept, Gregory, Hazlitt. and McLaren have been selected to replace Trumper, Armstrong, and Colter. The other selec- | tions remain in abeyance. Ransford's l place will be filled to-morrow. Carkeek now becomes first wicketkeeper in place of Carter. Webster, a South Australian, will probably be chosen \ I as second wicket-keeper. | It is expected that Hill will decide to stand by the other malcontents. I ARGENTINA BEATS HAWKE'S TEAM. ' Buenos AIRES, February 21. The Argentina representative eleven beat j Lord Hawke's M.C.C. team by four wickets at Buenos Aires to-day.
