WATERSIDE WORKERS.
THE AUCKLAND DISPUTE.
A PROBABLE CONFERENCE.
The position in regard to the dispute between the Auckland waterside workers and their employers is at present somewhat uncertain. The 7 award of the Arbitration Court expired on December 31, and, as already, stated, the employers have filed aft application for an extension of the award. A sitting of the Conciliation (Council has been fixed for January 30 to deal with the case. In the meantime a Dominion conference of employers and workers at Wellington has arrived at an agreement embodying an all-round increase of wages, as between the employers and the Federation of Labour. Auckland Was represented at this conference. ",,'.'
The Auckland delegates to the Wellington conference have returned, but, at present they are not inclined to make any definite statement in regard to the position'. A meeting of the union will be held on Wednesday'" when the report of i the* delegates Will be received, and 'the whole position discussed. In connection with"' the agreement arrived at between: the Waterside workers and shipowners regarding increased, rates of pay, etc., there appears to be some dissatisfaction among the members of the Lyttelton Casual Wharf Union. This morning a number of the men approached the president of the union and said 'that they thought that some stops should be 'taken in the direction of obtaining increased wages. It was.arranged that a meeting of the committee of the unions should be held to review the 'whole, position and formulate demands for increased pay. The result of the committee's deliberations < will be brought before a general meeting of the union.
