FANCYWORK FROM INDIA.
A CHOICE DISPLAY.
Probably one of the finest displays of Indian fancy work is shown at Mr. E. A. Riramer'n establishment at shop No. 2, Strand Arcade. Not only are the goods of the highest quality, but the prices aro wonderfully cheap. 'This is accounted for by the fact that Mr. Pirnmer was engaged in missionary work in India for a number of years, and is in a position to buy the articles cheaply. On being invalided back to New Zealand he imported to the Dominion a very fine assortment of Indian and Ceylon fancy goods. The display that would most likely appeal to the eyes of the ladies is the great assortment of laces and crochet work, all done by hand, the work being of the finest and the designs particularly fine. There are drawn-thread work, table centres, bedspreads, d'oyleys and pillow shams, the work representing a marvel of patient industry, and there are beautifully - embroidered blouses and dresses, and lovely wedding dresses, of pineapple silk. Numerous laces, hand-made ties, choice Ceylon hand-made laces. These fine made Indian goods are not only appreciated as luxuries but are also appreciated for their utility, their appearance, and their long-wearing qualities. Hand-made substitutes have Tbeen made, '_. but . cannot compare with the genuine article, for the qualities referred to above. Lovely hearthrugs, with rich and artistic designs, are on sale, and quaint ornaments in ivory and cocoanut wood give an Eastern, appearance to the room. There is also another series of ornaments made with turquoise chips, and these aro particularly novel. The natives of India and Ceylon, however, are noted for their deftness in this , respect, and : their work in laces, embroidery, and metal work has earned a world-wide renutation. The assortment shown by Mr. Rimmer gives a display of the best work, and those requiring such goods at low prices should not tail to pay a visit to the Strand Arcade. In addition to Indian goods Mr. Rimmer has on sale a large and varied stock of Chinese and Japanese fancy goods.
