TWO MEN iU A BOAT. A MIDNIGHT BATH. " I was walking along Quay-street, when I saw Crawford go down the man-of-war steps, and fall in the water, and I pulled him out," said William Joss, in the Police Court yesterday, when in company with James Crawford he was charged, before Mr. E. C. Cut ten, S.M., with being found by night without lawful excuse on the launch Stirling. Constable Gourlay, who arrested both accused, had a different story to tell. He said he saw both the accused on the Stirling. When questioned, Joss said he was looking for the Jessie Craig, and Crawford said he had just come down from the King Country. Another witness said he saw Crawford fall in the water, though it was whilst endeavouring to reach the Stirling. His Worship (addressing prisoners) : As you have been locked up since Saturday night, I think this will do you, this time. The charges will be dismissed.

ALLEGED THEFT. On a charge of stealing a rug, valued at £1, the property of Jolm Duthie, Walter Richard Carter was remanded to appear at Te Awamutu. Jack Hall was remanded till November 7 011 charges of having stolen money from A. Sinclair, and with having absconded from the Burnham Industrial School. DRUNKENNESS. MISCELLANEOUS. Joseph Holroyd was &d £1 for being disorderly whilst dim . Sub-Inspector Hendrey said that accused, in company with others, was singing in a boisterous manner in Grey-street, tad apparently disgusted at his inability to reach the top note he started swearing. For indecency, John. Braslin was sentenced to seven days' hard labour. Joseph Whitworth was fined 5s for drunkenness, but on a more eerioue charge —indecent assaulthe was remanded to appear at. Tauianga. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £100, or one of £200.
