COUNCIL CRITICISED.
CHALLENGE FOR A MAYOR.
[BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] Dargavoxx, Sunday. A well-attended public meeting was held on Friday evening, under the auspices of the Citizens' League, when the action of the Borough Council, in accepting dedication of unmetalled roads, was warmly denounced by speakers, who, however, deprecated antagonism towards the loan proposals of £20,000 for road formation, and in connection with which a poll is to be held to-morrow. Some heated remarks were made, and Mr. B. K. Williams challenged the Mayor (Mr. F. J. Dargaville) to resign and contest the seat with him, offering to pay the expenses of the election if he lost.
