A WARSHIP ASHORE.
LIVES LOST IN WRECKS.

It is reported by the steamer Niobe that it is believed that a Canadian warship is ' ashore on the Nova Scotian coast. The engineroom is flooded. -Steamers have . been despatched from Halifax and St. John to render aid. -..■ ' j ' The steamer John Irwin struck a rock off the coast of Nova Scotia, and sank in a few minutes. Only one of the crew of 15 was saved. Singapore, July 28. The ship Mersing was sunk in collision with the steamer Khengseng in the Straits of Malacca. Eight of the crew of the ship are missing.
in EMPRESS OF CHINA DOOMED. Vancouver, July 28. > Advices have been received that the liner Empress of China, which went ashore on the Japanese coast during the recent typhoon, is a hopeless wreck.
The Empress of China is a steamer of 59i7 tons, and was built at Barrow in 1891. She wis classed 100 Al at Lloyd's, and was owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company.
