THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY.

PROPOSED NEW FACTORY.

[BY CORRESPONDENT.] ~ , Tatthajutkiji, Monday. A meeting convened by the Chamber of Commerce last week in regard to the; formation of a dairy factory was attended by \ a very representative gathering of settlers and townspeople. " Mr. Winter (president of the Chamber of Commerce)" was in the chair. A resolution was unanimously carried to the effect that the formation of a dairy, company and the ultimate erection of a factory was desirable. A commit! '> was ''appointed: to arrange preliminaries. The principle of home separation was favoured,, but it was recognised that the district was as yet too scattered for creameries. A great deal of valuable information was forthcoming in regard to financing prospective dairy J farmers* without capital. '' Altogether 900 shares (non-milking or dry shares) were subscribed in the room, as well as a preliminary; guarantee of some 70 cows. Though it may not be .found practicable to begin operations by next aeason it is . certain that a start will be made within 12 months' time. .. Many letters in support of the project were received from settlers unable to attend. ► . - ■ .

HAURAKI PLAINS SETTLERS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN. CORRESPONDENT.] pAEROAj Monday. . As the outcome of the decision recently unanimously agreed to ' by the Hauraki' Plains Settlors' Association to join the Thames Valley Co-operative Dairying Company, a guarantee has now, been' executed by the settlers to supply that company, and shares in the company have been applied for, equal to the number of cows that it is expected will be milking next season. The first season's supply \ will not be a very large one, owing to the 1 ravages of the crickets amongst the settlors' newly-sown grass., The . district will be worked on home 1 separation lines, and the Thames .Valley Company: is arranging for a launch cartage service, will! enable them to have the cream placed in their central factory at Paeroa by. noon every day. -, •. ■. >
