WHOSE BODY?
A HARBOUR MYSTERY. ;. Tire name of the person whose body was found floating in the harbour .at Devon- ' port, on March 15, would appear to be still in doubt, despite the statement made at the Nautical Court, on Tuesday, that the body was that of the man Smith, who was lost from the ketch Moouah on the Occasion of the recent collision. In speaking to a representative of the : HERALD last evening, Inspector Culler, said that he did not consider for one moment. that the body in question was that of > " Smith. "The collision occurred about - midnight, on March 10," said Mr. Colten, ■:'- "and this body was recovered on the morning of March 15—just a little over four days later—in such a siato that Dr. Moir absolutely declined to hold a postmortem examination, and said that m the •-' ■ interests of public health the body should not have been removed from Devonport (where. - '' there is no morgue) to Auckland." ■ , It should thus be apparent to anyone *vho has had any experience in such matters, it was added, that the body was not that of the unfortunate sailor who was lost in the collision.
