MILITARY TOURNAMENT.

Napier, Wednesday. i The military tournament in connection with the carnival was commenced to-day, when the various infantry events were got off, some taking place in Clive Square and the remainder in the Theatre Royal during the afternoon and evening. The weather was showery all day. About 460 competing volunteers were present, competitors coming from Auckland and as far South as Invercargill. The following are the results: — Signalling, Morse: "Wellington Post" and Telegraph Rifles, 1 and 2; Ponsonby Naval Artillery, 3. , Bugle Competition: Bugler C. Knock (Napier Cacfct-s), 1: Bugler G. Waddington (Christchurch Imperial Rifles), 2; Bugler C. R. Smith (Christchurch Imperial Rifles), 3. Tug-of-war: Napier Fire Police, 1; Feilding Mounted Rifles, 2. Physical Drill: Wellington City Rifles. 1; Invercargill City Guards, 2; Hutt Valley Rifles, 3. Tent Competition: Greytown Rifles, 1; Palmerston North Rifles, 2. Ambulance Competition: No. 5 Wellington Field Hospital Bearer Corps and Napiei St. John Ambulance (equal), 1. Bavonefc Fighting: Wellington Civil Service Rifles, 1; Invercargill City Guards, 2; Palmerston North Rifles, 3. . Signalling Competition, Semaphore: Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifles, 1 and 2; Ponsonby Garrison Artillery, 3. Rifle Exercise:.Wellington City Rifles', 1; Invercargill City Guards, 2;. Christchurch Civil Service Rifles, 3. Route Marching: Palmerston North Rifles, 1; Christchurch Civil Service Rifles, 2; Palmerston North Rifles, 3. The mounted events will take place tomorrow. ».„,,,,, mr , BOWLING EVENTS. The bowling tournament progressed a little further. In the citizens rink match Crawley's team, 30, beat .Terry. 12, and Tabuteau'B rink, 24, beat "William* rink, loin the final Tabuteau's rink, 22. beat Crawlev's rink, 8. In the pairs match Dean ami T-ibutea-U. 24, beat Cowell and Williams, llfSdScy will play Yates and Bull in the final. " __—_—
